| PLEASE SUPPORT THE WEST SIDE LIBRARY I'd like to share a letter from my good friend Dorothy: Please become a member or consider making a donation. The time is now. The city has allocated $550,000 in the current budget and the county will let us know how much longer we have to wait by May or June. We are looking for the storefront by December 2012. Our new website is: http://pearlandwestsidelibraryfriends.org/ We need to raise the money for the initial book collection for this to be successful. We need as many members as possible. Please go to the website and join or donate Also, we need our county commissioners all on board with this. Shadow creek is in PCT 4 and Larry Stanley is your commissioner. His email is larrys@brazoria-county.com Silverlake and Southwyck are in PCT 2 and Matt Sebesta is your commisioner. His email is matts@brazoria-county.com Something easy you can do is to email Mr. Sebasta about supporting this. Mr. Stanley is already on board, but emails can't hurt. Here is the information and my letter to Mr. Sebasta. Feel free to use it as a template for your own letters. Dear Commissioner Sebesta: We need your active support for the building of a new library on the West Side of Pearland. Pearland has grown from a sleepy town of 900 to a city of almost 100,000 over the past 25 years. We went from 37,000 in 2000 to almost 100,000 in 2010. The Pearland Library on the east side is very nice, but simply not adequate for a growing population, many of whom live on the west side. It took us 2.5 years to get the small substation that is currently in operation 20 hours per week. That substation is so busy that a full time librarian had to be hired to meet the needs for staff even though it is only open 20 hours. My understanding is that over 900 books per hour are being processed at the substation currently. All of this has had no effect on the patrons who use the east side library and that library is also as busy as ever. The city has now budgeted $550,000 for startup costs for a store front library on the west side. Given that the city knows that we are in need, we would like your support for this modest beginning. The Friends of the Pearland Westside Library is very active and will be raising as much money as we can for the initial book collection. We started to raise funds over the last summer and will be stepping up our campaign. Thank you in advance for your support of this effort.
