BRINGING YOUR VOICE TO CITY COUNCIL
TAMMY DEXTER FOR CITY COUNCIL Pos. 4
"Bringing Your Voice to Council"
I originally left the "Issues" page blank because in the past, candidates have "borrowed" my research on
issues & solutions I have developed through the years.
In order for a candidate to understand the issues...they must know the issues.
This means they must be actively involved in the community

Below are just a few areas most residents are aware that I have been working to change.  Some have been
successful such as bringing the issue to light concerning our Police Department and the lack of Radio's,
lack of police officer's on duty compared to the national average and the need to expand our home fleet.
Pearland is growing which is a great thing, but with the growth of a City sometimes follows growing pains.

As the daughter of a Marine and 25 year Police Officer,  I grew up in the PD. It truly is a "family" and we need
to take care of our family so that they can continue to safe guard our residents.

"I think our police force is doing a great job and I would like to make sure they and our fire department have
the resources they need."

  •    We need to continue to recruit/hire officers to stay in line with the national average.
This also applies to continuing to expand our home fleet.
  •    We need to have competitive salaries.
I have heard all too often that we are the "training ground" for other Cities.
  •    Streamline the Grants Funds Process.
It's difficult enough to find the funds needed to get the most basic items.
H.E.B. on Pearland Parkway
Last year, I strongly supported the zone change to allow H.E.B. to build the quality store they wanted
to bring to FM 518/Pearland Parkway.

Here it is a year later and almost no progress has been made, despite claims last year by the other
candidates (after polls showed the popular support for the H.E.B.) that they were also in support.

The failure to move forward on the H.E.B. discussions is just one example of the ways our current City
Council & Planning and Zoning Board fails to follow through on the expressed will of Pearland Residents.
ECONOMIC GROWTH
CITY SERVICES
Supporting Small/Local Businesses
    I SUPPORT OUR SMALL BUSINESSES
(Call and ask me more about this particular issue!)

Although Pearland is one of the fastest growing cities, we too are still experiencing tough economic times
marked by a rise in Pearland unemployment numbers.
We need to continue to support local businesses while aggressively looking to add industries with a high
growth rate.

"I moved to Pearland over a decade ago because of it's small town values and I believe that is what will
continue to lure other great families to Pearland.  As a
fiscal conservative I  will continue to encourage
responsible growth and development."

I have a strong Scientific/Medical background and have been advocating the addition of this industry including
Biomedical Facilities .  As a growing City, we are under-represented in the medical field.  I believe we could be
the leader in the medical field!  Planning with both the needs and the wishes of our residents should be the
priority when making any decisions. As a Councilmember, YOUR voice will be sitting at the Council table.
Police/Fire Departments
Responsible Growth
We must use common sense when determining the annexation of various areas.
As the only candidate attending these vital council  & annexation meetings, I have found that residents
currently in the County are worried about future annexation for many reasons.  They have good reason to be
concerned.  We still have residents who have been annexed for over 7 years and still do not receive City
services!  This needs to be remedied before we burden both services and residents.
A library is needed on the West side.
I am a member of the Friends of West Side Library and have been meeting with our County Commissioner on
the progress of the Library while researching alternate funding solutions to help realize a library on the West
Side.

I believe that traffic is an issue we all share.
I have been impressed with the current city council which has been tackling the transportation
and traffic problems, expanding roadways and providing bike lanes and sidewalks.
These take time, budgeting issues and in the case of the Westside Library and Transportation solutions, a
Coordination between City and other entities.

IF ELECTED, I WILL CONTINUE TO BE ACTIVE & PROACTIVE
**While my opponent has been
endorsed by those who have
tried to expand the Pearland
Regional Airport whether
through a Municipal Management
District and/or expansion. I have
ALWAYS been opposed to this!

Since that opponent did not
move back to Pearland until
recently, he did NOT attend
those crucial "informational
meetings" held by the Airport.

I DID attend the meetings, spoke
out against the expansion and
walked around our City getting
signatures of those who also
oppose this.

If elected I promise to vote
against ANY annexation or
expansion of that Airport.
PEARLAND REGIONAL
AIRPORT
(CLOVERFIELD) EXPANSION
PEARLAND REGIONAL AIRPORT (CLOVERFIELD)
For years, this has been an issue for our residents. I am the ONLY candidate who has been to all the
meetings concerning this issue.  Last year, they tried to push through a Municipal Management District
and failed. Last year I stood up with you and publicly OPPOSED the MMD.  I collected signatures to help
prevent your house values from dropping.  I understand the ramifications of expanding this airport...while
my opponent is endorsed by those who run the airport!
IF ELECTED: I WILL OPPOSE ANNEXATION AND EXPANSION and use of EMINENT DOMAIN!
Id like to make this clear...just as I have made a SOLID STAND on EVERY ISSUE PRESENTED and
never have I changed my mind.

I HAVE NEVER SUPPORTED THE PHYSICIANS HOSPITAL PROPOSED AT PEARLAND PKWY

As I continually state... "OUR RESIDENTS WISHES SHOULD BE THE PRIORITY WHEN MAKING
ANY DECISION"
Historically, politicians do not take a
stand either way on issues for fear of
upsetting one group or another.

We can have another politician or a
candidate who has stood up for our
residents at every turn.
